KINGSVILLE, Texas – Javelina Athletics is proud to announce the 1994 Javelina football team as the fourth inductee of the Javelina Hall of Fame class of 2022.
The squad becomes the fourth inductee into the 2022 Hall. Inductees announced earlier are Levi Johnson, football and track and field; Kim Martinez Lambert, volleyball, and Garrett Murdy, baseball.
The 1994 Javelina football team was NCAA Division II national runner-up and had a 12-2 record. The squad lost in the championship game, 16-10, to host North Alabama.
The Javelinas were undefeated in the Lone Star Conference. Regular-season victories came over Southwest Texas, East Central Oklahoma, Portland (Ore.) State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Central Oklahoma, Tarleton State, Eastern New Mexico, Abilene Christian and Angelo State.
The loss, other than to North Alabama in the championship, was to Central State of Ohio.
Ron Harms, Javelina Hall of Fame member, was head coach of the team and the assistant coaches were Juan Castillo, offensive line; Richard Cundiff, 1994 Football Team to Be Inducted linebackers; Jim Dawson, secondary; Don Pittman, offensive backs; Chris Ballard, receivers; Rod Mounts, tight ends; Tally Neal, defensive line; James Bryant, linebackers, and Keithen DeGrate, offensive line.
Harms was named the LSC coach of the year. Making All-America first team were Kevin Dogins, Jaime Martinez and Jeff Rodgers.
Dogins was on the NCAA Division II All-America first team, American Football Quarterly All-American first team and C.M. Frank All-America first team. He was the LSC's outstanding lineman of the year. Martinez was on the Football Gazette All-America first team and NCAA Division II All-America second unit.
Rodgers made the American Football Coaches Association All-American first team, NCAA Division II All-America first unit, Football Gazette All-America first team and C.M. Frank All-America first team. Making the NCAA Division II All-Region first team were Dogins, defensive back Tyrone Marshall, Martinez and punter Kevin Thornewell. Marshall was the LSC defensive back of the year.
All-LSC first team were running back Dexter Deese, Dogins, linebacker Chris Hensley, linebacker Sean Holcomb, Marshall, Martinez, offensive lineman Jermane Mayberry, linebacker Courtney Palmer and Rodgers. Holcomb and Rodgers were selected to participate in the Snow Bowl game.
The 1994 football team joins the 1959, 1969, 1970, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1979 football teams in the Hall of Fame.
Inductees will be officially honored and inducted this coming Spring on Feb. 17 in the Memorial Student Union Building ballrooms.
