BLAINE, Wash. – Texas A&M – Kingsville advanced to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in Lone Star Conference play after defeating the Simon Fraser Red Leafs (0-3, LSC 0-3) 35-7 in Blaine, Washington on Saturday night.
"We got the win which is the most important thing," said head coach
Mike Salinas. "We played well in some areas, but as always there are things we want to improve on but to make this long trip and get the win that's always a good feeling."
Quarterback
Jacob Cavazos led the way offensively for the Javelinas throwing for 199 yards and three touchdowns while also scoring one on the ground in the win.
The Hog defense got after it in the Pacific North West forcing three total turnovers with an interception by
Cory McMahan while the team recovered two SFU fumbles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Javelinas started fast scoring on their first three drives of the game to open an early 21-0 lead.
Quarterback
Jacob Cavazos got it done on the ground and the air scoring the first touchdown on a four-yard scamper and the second on a 41-yard strike to
Zaraivion Amendarez on the second.
Running back
Christian Anderson capped off the scoring in the first quarter by punching the ball in from a yard out to cap off a 10-play drive with 1:36 remaining.
The Red Leafs looked to have found life in the second quarter chewing up most of the second quarter on a 14-play drive that started from their own six-yard line and took 7:54 off the clock. Despite having first and goal from the one, the Javelina defense held strong on four straight plays with a goal-line stand that forced a turnover on downs.
The Javs would then drive the ball the length of the field with just over two minutes remaining on a 14-play drive that would finish with a four-yard touchdown pass to tight end
Allen Arclies in the front of the end zone with four seconds remaining in the half.
The Red Leafs would get on the board first in the second half scoring on a 40-yard touchdown pass following a fumble recovery with 2:43 left in the third quarter making the score 28-7.
TAMUK would respond quickly though scoring on its next possession as Cavazos found tight end
Walker Ring on a 21-yard touchdown pass to put the Javs up 35-7 in the fourth.
WHO LED THE WAY
- Cavazos posted a QBR of 135.2, going 20-33 through the air for 199 yards and recording three TDs through the air as well.
- Christian Anderson and Toneil Carter both rushed for 81 yards tonight averaging 5.8 and 6.2 yards respectively
- Defensive back Antonio Singleton led the Javs in tackles with five solo tackles and six total

The Javelinas will welcome the Mustangs of Western New Mexico to Javelina Stadium next week on Saturday, October 8 at 7 p.m. for Hispanic Heritage Night.
