RICHARDSON, Texas (TAMUK/LSC) – The Lone Star Conference announced the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2021 spring semester on Tuesday, with 149 members of the Texas A&M-Kingsville athletic programs making the list of 2,146 student-athletes.
46 Javelinas finished with a perfect 4.0 GPA during the semester, while UT Tyler led all LSC member institutions with 73 student-athletes compiling a flawless GPA for the spring.
From the TAMUK athletic programs, the men's and women's track and field and cross country programs, under head coach Ryan Dall, had the most student-athletes with a perfect mark at 11. The volleyball and beach volleyball program with Tanya Allen had the second-most with eight, while Jason Gonzales' baseball program rounded out the top three with seven.
UT Tyler had 185 student-athletes make the honor roll, most among all league institutions. Angelo State had second-most with 161, followed by A&M-Commerce (158), UT Permian Basin (156) and West Texas A&M (152) rounding out the top five.
Of the 149 Javelinas to make the honor roll, 34 currently compete on the track and field and cross country teams, followed by 23 from the football team and 21 from the softball team. Another 20 from the baseball team and 19 from the indoor volleyball and beach volleyball teams round out the top five.
The final count included 698 students with a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. After UT Tyler, Angelo State had the second most with 63, followed by A&M-Commerce (59) and UT Permian Basin (49) in third and fourth, respectively, while Lubbock Christian (46) tied with TAMUK for fifth-most.
Women's soccer had 100 student-athletes finish with a perfect GPA. Softball was second with 85, followed by volleyball (65), and women's basketball (64).
The Commissioner's Honor Roll is announced at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters with student-athletes qualifying based on grade point average for the current semester. To be eligible for the honor roll, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 GPA for the current semester and be on the roster.
