KINGSVILLE, Texas – After dropping a 4-1 decision to the Central Arkansas Beach Bears in their first match of the day, the Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team bounced back with a 3-2 defeat of the New Orleans Privateers on Friday evening on the first day of the Battle on the Bayou at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
This 1-1 day allowed the Javelinas to remain above .500 with a record of 10-9.
TAMUK vs. UCA
The Javs nearly found a path to victory against the Beach Bears and TAMUK received a point from the third flight when junior Tenley Housler (Bulverde, Texas) and freshman Macie Satterwhite (Callisburg, Texas) outlasted their opponents, 21-17, 19-21, 15-5. Two close sets that went against the Javelinas at No. 1 and No. 4 and helped UCA come out on top.
TAMUK vs. UNO
Three sweeps in flights No's 2 – 4 were enough to give the Javs the win, but each match involved at least one set that was decided by only two points. In the No. 2 match, seniors Shelby Williams (New Braunfels, Texas) and Debra Rogers (Tulsa, Okla.) took the first frame by six before eking out a victory in the second to lock in a point for the Blue and Gold, 21-15, 21-19.
Housler and Satterwhite won their first set with ease at No. 3, but needed extra points to secure the second, doing so in 21-13, 22-20 fashion. The narrowest escape came courtesy of freshmen Emily North (Red Oak, Texas) and Rylie Anderson (Justin, Texas) in the fourth match, but they also collected a sweep by a score of 21-17, 24-22 to help the Javelinas secure their 10th victory of 2021.
The Javelinas have an even busier day in Baton Rouge on Saturday, when they'll play three times, beginning at 11:40 a.m. against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, followed by a 2:20 p.m. match with the LSU Tigers and a 5 p.m. contest against the Spring Hill Badgers.
