KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball program wrapped up its season this past week, while the men's basketball program officially began the 2021-22 campaign with a trip north to South Dakota and Nebraska.

For their efforts on the court, the freshmen duo of Ayanna Jackson (San Antonio, Texas) and Derek Luna (Palmview, Texas) were named IBC Bank Players of the Week for November 17.

Jackson led the Javelinas with 25 kills this past weekend at 3.13 per set on a .288 clip in matches against Oklahoma Christian and UAFS. She started the road trip with 14 kills at a .267 rate coupled with three aces, two blocks and four digs in the five-set loss to the Eagles.

She followed that up with 11 kills while hitting .310 to go with one ace and six digs in the three-set loss to the Lions to wrap up her season. She ended the year with a team-high 229 kills at 2.83 per set and a .270 hitting percentage along with 11 aces and 75 blocks.

Luna went off in back-to-back games to begin the season and put his name in the Javelina record books in the process. On Friday night, he tied a program record by sinking nine three-pointers and finished the evening with a career-high 27 points.

On Saturday, he did one better by tallying 28 points in an 84-74 Javelina win over Chadron State, hitting 10-of-13 from the floor. For the week, Luna's 67.9% from the field, including 13-of-20 on treys, and his average of 27.5 points per game is the highest in the LSC.

The Javelina volleyball program's season ended after the match against UAFS, while the men's basketball program returns home to the Steinke Physical Education Center this week for the 2021 Javelina Classic on November 19-20 for games against Dallas Christian and Northwest Nazarene.
