INDIANAPOLIS – For the third consecutive week, the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team stayed put, both in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll and in the South Central Region rankings. The Javelinas remained at No. 3 nationally and No. 1 in the region.
The Javs were able to maintain their standing with a week during which they won all five of their games and captured their first Lone Star Conference Championship. That earned TAMUK the chance to host the conference tournament and put them at 41 wins, their second-highest total in school history. The Javelinas are 41-8 overall and 24-6 in conference play.
There was some movement among LSC teams in the new NFCA poll. A&M-Commerce jumped West Texas A&M, moving up to seventh while the Lady Buffs dropped three spots to No. 9. Tarleton's ranking didn't change, as they're still at No. 19. Cameron is receiving votes for the first time in 2019.
In the South Central Region, the Javelinas, Lions, TexAnns, Lady Buffs and Aggies occupy the top five spots. Colorado Mesa, ranked sixth, is the top non-LSC school. St. Mary's owns the seventh spot, followed by Angelo State in eighth.
The Javelinas are awaiting their opponent in the semifinals of the LSC Tournament which will begin on Friday at 11 a.m. at Hubert Field in Kingsville, Texas.
