LAWTON, Okla – A three-run homer by Breley Webb, the fifth round-tripper of the contest, snapped a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh and gave the Cameron Aggies a 6-3, walk-off victory in Lone Star Conference action on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at McMahon Field in Lawton, Okla.
The Javelinas fall to 7-3 in LSC play and 20-4 overall. The Aggies are now 3-4 in conference and 14-8 overall.
Starters Saidi Castillo (12-2) (Kingsville, Texas) and Breley Webb each put up a pair of zeroes to get the evening underway before Cameron started the slugfest in the third. Breanna Bubsy began the frame with her seventh dinger of 2019 and, two batters later, Khamri Edwards went deep with a runner on and Webb suddenly had a 3-0 lead to work with.
Webb's cushion was quickly erased by freshman Veronica Chavez (Tempe, Ariz.), who came to bat in the fourth after a strikeout and walk to freshman Jory Cervantes (Pflugerville, Texas). TAMUK's first baseman proceeded to deposit her third bomb of the year over the left field wall, pulling the Blue and Gold to within one.
After stranding a pair of runners in the fifth, Cameron saw its lead evaporate completely in the sixth when senior Roxy Chapa (McAllen, Texas) collected her team-high sixth home run of the season. In her last 13 games, Chapa has tallied 16 RBIs.
Each pitcher put up a zero to set the stage for the final innings. Walks to Busby and Edwards put two on with one out before Castillo induced a pop out for out number two. Unfortunately for the Javelinas, that brought up Webb, who hit the night's fifth homer to give Cameron the win.
