Javelinas upend Abilene Christian for third straight win

TAMUK stays hot by sweeping Wildcats

HOUSTON – In a thoroughly dominant performance, the Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team notched their third straight victory, pummeling the Abilene Christian Wildcats, 5-0, on the first day of the Houston Baptist University Tournament at Third Coast Volleyball Club in Houston, Texas on Friday afternoon.

Each win during TAMUK's current streak has come against a Division I foe and the Javelinas have also conquered seven of their last eight opponents to push their record to 9-7.

"We're starting to see more chemistry amongst the pairs," said coach Tanya Allen. "I also think we're doing a better job seeing the court which is helping us score."

The team's hottest tandem, freshmen Christina Gragasin (Celina, Texas) and Nicole Murff (San Antonio, Texas) got the Javs started with their eighth consecutive victory, defeating Amy Weiss and Kennedy Shelstead 21-10, 21-11 in the fourth flight. The pairing of sophomore Shelby Tate (New Braunfels, Texas) and freshman Lauren Kadilis (Spring Branch, Texas) picked up their first win out of the fifth flight, doing so by a score of 21-18, 21-9 to push the Javelina lead to 2-0.

The top three flights began with sophomore Macy Berg (San Antonio, Texas) and senior Haley Hutchinson (Georgetown, Texas) upping their 2019 record to 12-4 with a 21-11, 21-12 win in the No. 3 slot. The second flight was collected by senior Madison Brabham (Kingwood, Texas) and freshman Kylexus Block (San Antonio, Texas), 21-8, 21-16. That tandem is now 9-3 in that spot. Sophomores Tenley Housler (Bulverde, Texas) and Whitney Walker (Bellingham, Wash.) tallied their 12th victory of the year with a 21-15, 21-11 triumph over Eighmy Dobbins and Kate Mueller in the No. 1 match.

TAMUK's win streak will be put to the test on Saturday when they'll battle the New Mexico Lobos at 9 a.m. and the New Orleans Privateers at 1 p.m. To stay current with everything related to Javelina Beach Volleyball all season long, follow @JavelinaBeach on Twitter and @javelinasports and @JavelinaBeach on Instagram, like Javelina Sports on Facebook and visit Javelinasports.com.
