Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – Loren Kelly collected three hits in as many at-bats, scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base as the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team blanked the UT Permain Basin Falcons 8-0 on Friday night at Hubert Field in Kingsville, Texas.
The Javelinas' winning streak has now reached eight games and their record stands at 11-17. UTPB sits at 8-12.
The Javelinas started the scoring the very first inning. Kelly led-off with a single and proceeded to swipe second. Rachael Longoria then ripped a run-scoring triple off the wall in left and she tallied her team's second run on a sacrifice fly by Roxy Chapa.
In the second, the Javs loaded the bags on a walk and two singles and Kelly singled in TAMUK's third run. The home team then stretched their lead to five when two runs came in on an error and Chapa upped that lead to 6-0 with an RBI single.
Breanna Smith (8-3) was charged with protecting that lead and she did her job masterfully. In five innings, she permitted only two hits and didn't walk a batter. TAMUK's southpaw also struck out eight.
The Javs clinched their run-rule victory with a pair in the fifth, putting together a rally that began when Haley Boyett was plunked. Anastasia Leibas laced a double to right-center to score Boyett and, two batters later, Alexei Gonzalez ended the game with a sacrifice fly.
TAMUK and UTPB will play a pair tomorrow, with the opener set for 1 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. contest at Hubert Field. Javelina softball can be found on Twitter @TAMUKSB and fans can also like /JavelinaSports on Facebook and subscribe to the Javelina athletics YouTube channel.
