Box Score 2 MESQUITE, Texas – Roxy Chapa totaled four hits in two games, including two homers, but the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team dropped a pair of contests on Friday, losing to Southern Arkansas 6-3 and Lubbock Christian, 14-6.
The Javelinas now have record of 3-4. Southern Arkansas moves to 5-1 while Lubbock Christian improves to 5-1.
GAME ONE
The Javelinas wasted no time jumping in front. Loren Kelly singled to lead off the bottom of the first took second on a passed ball and touched home when Victoria Schoonard-Saborio ripped a double into right-center.
Two innings later, a single by Schoonard-Saborio was followed by Roxy Chapa long ball and the Javs had a 3-0 edge.
In the circle, Sarah Gilbert was cruising. She retired the first 13 batters she faced and had given up just one hit entering the sixth. Unfortunately for the Javs, that's when it all came unraveled.
Two singles sandwiched around hit batter loaded the bases for Kiara Bonner and she laced a single down the left field line to score two runs. When the next batter, Brooke Goad, went yard, the Muleriders had their first lead of the day. Two more runs came across on errors and the Javelinas were held without a hit over the last two frames.
GAME TWO
After a scoreless first, each team scored once in the second, the Chaparrals on a Haley Hardison RBI single, the Javelinas on solo homer by Chapa. Lubbock Christian came back with two more runs in the third on a round-tripper by Morgan Dufour, but Lauren Oatman responded in kind with her first homer of 2018, drawing the Javelinas even at 3-3.
In the fourth, however, the Lady Chaps offense continued to push across runs, re-taking the lead on an RBI knock by Megan Darling. Averi Miller tallied the second run of the inning on an error and Dufour made the score 7-3 with her second homer of the day. One inning later, Courtney Medina drove in two runs with a double and came around to score on single by Beuthien, increasing Lubbock Christian's lead to seven.
TAMUK crept to within five in their half of the fifth thanks to a double by Chapa and a wild pitch that scored Victoria Schoonard-Saborio. After each team scored once in the sixth, the Chaparrals added insurance, denting home plate three times with two home runs to secure the victory.
