Box Score LAREDO, Texas – In the final game of the Texas A&M International Tourney for the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team, the Javelinas were handed a 4-1 defeat by the Central Oklahoma Bronchos at Dustdevils Softball Field in Laredo, Texas on Sunday.
Through five games, the Javelinas have a record of 3-2 while Central Oklahoma improves to 4-2.
The Bronchos opened up the scoring, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a double by Carrie Abrams was followed up by a Morgan Heard home run. In the top of the second, they tacked on one more run in the form of a Casady Webb solo shot.
In the fourth, the Bronchos tacked on an insurance run to go up by four. Halley Randolph led off with a double and a groundout moved pinch-runner Natalie Seevers to third. An RBI single by Bailey Thompson two batters later put Central Oklahoma ahead 4-0.
The Javelinas scored their only run of the day in the bottom of the fifth after Anastasia Leibas drilled one over the left field wall. That would be all TAMUK's offense could muster against Jayden Chestnut, who pitched all seven innings while allowing just one run on four hits. Chestnut also struck out five while handing out just one walk.
Next weekend will see the Javelinas play six games, starting with two on Friday, first at 11 a.m. against Southern Nazarene, then against Southeastern Oklahoma at 3 p.m. Javelina softball can be found on Twitter @TAMUKSB and fans can also like /JavelinaSports on Facebook and subscribe to the Javelina athletics YouTube channel.
