Box Score

CANYON, Texas – Angelica Wilson reached double figures in scoring for the seventh straight game, recording 21 points, but it wasn't enough to lift the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team past the No. 25 West Texas Lady Buffs, who won 74-58 on Thursday night at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.

This loss drops TAMUK's record to 6-19 overall and 3-14 in conference. West Texas now owns a mark of 21-4 and they are 13-4 in Lone Star Conference action.

Keyed by three-pointers from Sydney Walton and Megan Gamble, the Lady Buffs took an early 9-3 lead and they maintained that lead by answering jumpers by Sadie Russell and Wilson with layups courtesy of Tyesha Taylor. The Javs cut their deficit to two when Shaq Debose followed a Brynae Thompson layup by swishing a jump shot.

The home team then took off on a 14-2 run that the Javelinas were unable to recover from. Two free throws and a layup pushed WT's lead to six before a triple from Lexy Hightower made the score 24-15 as the first period expired. A layup by Russell provided the first points of the second quarter, but Deleyah Harris answered with a trey and Hightower and Abby Spurgin added baskets to provide the Lady Buffs with a 14-point cushion. Wilson attempted to bring Kingsville back, sinking four free throws, but both trips to the charity stripe were answered by Spurgin, who converted pair of layups.

Following a bucket by Debose, the Lady Buffs put together another rally, scoring 10 of the game's next 12 points with a run that included three-pointers from Walton and Hightower. Another triple, this one by Madison Parker, enabled the Lady Buffs to carry a 48-25 edge into halftime.

The teams played just about even basketball in the third, with Brynae Thompson hitting a pair of treys for TAMUK and Wilson tallying 10 points in the quarter, which ended with WT ahead 64-43.

Tatyana McFarland began the final quarter with two layups, but Cece Wooten answered with consecutive buckets for the home team and a layup by Tiana Parker put them up by 23. The Javs outscored their hosts 11-4 the rest of the way to provide the final margin.

The Javelinas don't even have to wait 48 hours for their next opportunity to get a win. They'll be in Odessa on Saturday to face the UT Permian Basin Falcons at 2 p.m. You can receive content for Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball, you can follow @TAMUKWBB on Twitter and Instagram, like the official Facebook page of Javelina athletics (/JavelinaSports) and subscribe to the Javelina Athletics YouTube channel.
