Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – Eight different players scored for the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team, but the Javelinas couldn't overcome a spirited effort by the No. 2 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs, who captured a 79-40 victory on Saturday night at the Steinke Physical Education Center in Kingsville, Texas.
FIRST QUARTER
Two buckets by Lexy Hightower and one by Madison Parker gave the Lady Buffs an early 6-0 lead before Angelica Wilson hit a layup for TAMUK. Tiana Parker answered with a layup of her own and Hightower canned a triple, but the Javelinas closed to within five thanks to another Wilson layup and jumper courtesy of Victoria Salinas.
A three by Reagan Haynes triggered a 14-0 run by the Lady Buffs that sent them out a 25-6 lead. The rally included another trey, this one by Zada Zwoopes and Abby Spurgin capped the run with a layup as the quarter ended.
SECOND QUARTER
Tatyana McFarland opened the scoring in the second quarter with a layup and a TAMUK free throw brought the Hoggies to within 16. Parker added to WT's lead with a consecutive jumpers and, after a McFarland free throw, Abby Spurgin tacked on a pair. Foul shots from both sides moved the score to 33-13 and Sadie Russell got on the scoresheet with a jump shot for the home team. Emmeri Archer followed with jumper of her own and pair of free throws by the Javelinas topped off a 6-0 run, before a CeCe Wooten foul shot provided the final point of the half.
THIRD QUARTER
A Sadie Russell bucket started the third, but Deleyah Harris responded with a trey. A Wilson free throw was answered by two layups by Madison Parker and one from Deleyah Harris. Each team sank two foul shots before Emmeri Archer hit for a pair and Parker swished a triple and Hightower knocked down a jumper. The sides traded makes before Sadie Russell tossed in a trey. A layup by Sydney Walton and free throws by Ope Ibrahim, Shaq Debose and Wooten finished the period with the score at 56-34.
FOURTH QUARTER
The Lady Buffs dominated over the final 10 minutes, outscoring their hosts, 23-6 on their way to their 15th win of the season.
A three-game road swing for the Javelinas begins on Thursday against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds in Portales.
