SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Despite a career single-match high from
Madison Brabham, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (3-2) was defeated by the University of Sioux Falls (5-0) 14-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-18, 13-15 at the Stewart Center on Tuesday evening. Â Â

The clubs went set-for-set but it was Sioux Falls who came away victorious, outhitting Texas A&M-Kingsville .279-.203 and recording 11 total team blocks. Â

Brabham led the team with 19 kills, while
Krystal Faison turned in a team-high .333 hit percentage on 18 kills. The senior also recorded 21 kills for her third double-double of the season and served a season-high four aces.
Lexi Wick accounted for eight kills and three service aces, while
Haley Hutchinson gathered seven kills and a team-high of four blocks.
Casey Klobedans also posted a season-high with 45 assists.Â
The Cougars had four players in double figures. Bria Barfnecht tallied 17 kills and 10 digs and was followed by Makenna Rockeman (13 kills), Averey Yaksich (11 kills) and Lexi Scott (10 kills). Â

Set 1Â
The Cougars got off to a quick 6-1 start that the Javelinas could not overcome. Their lead continued to grow in the opening frame, landing the first punch 25-14.Â

Set 2Â
TAMUK got a big lift early in the set from Faison, Brabham, and Wick. Consecutive kills starting with Wick and followed by Brabham tied the set at 12 and forced a USF timeout. The Cougars scored four unanswered points in an attempt to distance themselves, but Faison caught fire to tie the set late at 21. The Hogs ended set No. 2 on a 3-0 run behind two kills from Brabham, winning the set 25-22. Faison finished with set-highs eight total kills and a .615 attacking percentage.Â

Set 3Â
The third stanza was very competitive and featured a total of eight ties and two lead changes, the most of any other set. However, USF pulled away with a 10-4 run and scored the last six points to win 25-16, taking a 2-1 match lead. Â Â

Set 4Â
The Javelinas refused to lay down and forced a second Cougars timeout in the set after a kill from Wick gave the visitors a 15-9 cushion. In claiming the 25-15 victory to tie the match, the Hogs hit .478 while holding their opponent to a .154 attack percentage and met them at the net three times. Brabham led the way with six kills and was followed Faison and Wick's three kills each.Â

Set 5Â
The set started with an ace from Faison, but an attack error from Wick and kill from Barfnecht gave the match its final lead change. The Javs continued to compete and nearly pulled off the comeback with a late 7-3 run but the Cougars held on for the narrow 15-13 win. Â

The Javelinas will be back in action tonight at 7:30 p.m. as they take on #9 Augustana University.Â
