KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (3-1) will travel to the Mount Rushmore State and play two matches on Wednesday, September 6 at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The first will be against the University of Sioux Falls (3-1) at the Stewart Center, followed by the nightcap three minutes down the road against #9 Augustana University at the Elmen Center.
The Javelinas had a good outing at the Kathleen Brasfield ASU Invitational as they claimed wins over New Mexico Highlands University, Colorado Christian University, and Limestone College.
Lexi Wick led the team with 48 kills and added 12 blocks, while
Krystal Faison was behind her with 42 kills and team-high seven service aces. Both were tabbed to the Kathleen and Brasfield ASU Invitational All-Tournament team.
Madison Brabham recorded 41 kills and seven blocks,
Gabby Atchley turned in 39 kills, eight blocks, and three aces, and
Haley Hutchinson paced the team with 13 blocks and a .421 hitting percentage on 27 kills.
Casey Klobedans 9.82 assists per set directed the offense, as she also chipped in nine kills, nine blocks, and three aces.
The Panthers of Sioux Falls enter the match unbeaten after sweeping Black Hills State, Fort Hays State, and William Jewell. In their last match of the weekend, they topped Arkansas-Fort Smith in four sets. USF was dominant defensively as they held its opponents to a .078 hitting percentage and was not too shabby on offense as they hit .263. Makenna Rockeman has a slight edge in the 40-kill club with 45, but Lexi Scott and Bria Barfnecht sits close behind her with 44 kills each. Scott was very efficient and well-balanced as she has a team-high of .456 hitting percentage and 17 total blocks.
Despite being swept by Regis University at the Oredigger Classic in Colorado, Augustana moves up to No. 9 in the AVCA National Poll Rankings. The Vikings picked up straight-set victories against then-ranked #15 CSU-San Bernardino, Rollins, and Eastern New Mexico. As a team, the Augies hit .230, has 19 aces and, averages 2.1 blocks per set. Courtney Place heads the team with 39 kills, averaging 3.25 per set. Lauren Waite has a team-best .255 attack percentage on 36 kills, and Ashley Wilson adds 34 kills, three aces and sets the tone defensively with 13 total blocks.
