KINGSVILLE, Texas – In an instant classic inside of the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-6, 3-2 LSC) nearly upset No. 16 Angelo State University (11-4, 3-3 LSC) in five sets Friday evening.
The Javelinas outhit the Belles .272-.269 and won the battle at the net with eight blocks. However, the home team found themselves on the wrong side of a thrilling fifth set that featured eight ties and three lead changes.
Senior
Lexi Wick was one of four Javelinas to finish with double figures in kills. Wick registered 15 kills, an ace, and tied for a match-high of four blocks with middle
Haley Hutchinson (eight kills).
Krystal Faison logged another double-double with 14 kills and 20 digs, while
Shelby Sheets tied her career-high of 14 kills.
Madison Brabham concludes the top hitters for the Hogs with 11 put-downs and finished with two blocks.
Casey Klobedans turned in her second consecutive match with 50 assists while chipping in seven kills and libero
Jasmine Jacinto tied for a match-high 20 digs.
Angelo State was led by Brianna Sotello's double-double (18 kills, 15 digs) and Sundara Chinn's 18 kills. Sotello, Meghan Parker, and Bailey Mulder each recorded two service aces in the match.
Texas A&M-Kingsville looks ahead to No. 15 Tarleton State tomorrow at 2 p.m., ending its four-match homestand.
