Moses Tallies 11 Tackles in Season Opener

KINGSVILLE – #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville (0-1) could not overcome its 14 penalties as the Javelinas fell to #RV Central Washington University (1-0) 34-10 Saturday evening at Javelina Stadium.

The Hogs' 14 penalties were for 136 yards and despite outpassing the Wildcats 224-to-182, CWU scored its 34 unanswered points.

Conner Smith finished 23-for-36 and Nick Pelrean rushed for 102 yards on 11 carries. Kyle Plum led the way with six catches for 68 yards.

FIRST QUARTER
It was all Javelinas early with the Hogs capping off a nine-play, 5:09 drive with a 44-yard field goal by Julio De la Garza. Moments later, Pelrean found the end zone for the first TD of the season on a beautiful 56-yard run. In between Javelina offensive drives, the defense came out with pressure on quarterback Reilly Hennessey, highlighted by Peyton Tilley's QB hurry.

Trevor Moses collected 11 tackles and Caleb Valentine was second with eight tackles.

Closing out the first with a 10-0 lead, the Hogs overcame five penalties to take a double-digit lead.

SECOND QUARTER
Central Washington scored 14 unanswered to head into the half with a 14-10 lead.

In the first half, Smith was 10-of-14 for 77 yards, hitting Plum and Jordan Thomas twice. Pelrean rushed seven times for 96 yards and a score. Defensively, Valentine's seven tackles led the way and he registered the lone sack of the stanza.

THIRD QUARTER
CWU continued to dominate the clock and make the most of the Javelina penalties, tacking on six in the third to head into the fourth leading 20-10.

FOURTH QUARTER
Kuziah Ferebee
intercepted a pass but Smith threw one that was returned 96 yards in the frame as the visiting Wildcats defeated the Javelinas 34-10, snapping the seven game TAMUK win streak.
