KINGSVILLE, Texas (Softball) – After a small hiatus, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (19-21, 8-11 LSC) returns to Lone Star Conference play in an important three-game series verses Eastern New Mexico University (18-30, 10-14 LSC) beginning Thursday, April 13 at 6 p.m. at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.
After four games against non conference clubs, the Javelinas are ready to get back into the LSC grind with the regular season slowly coming to an end. Victoria Schoonard-Saborio leads the team offensively with a .438 batting average, 53 hits, and 34 runs scored. The sophomore also adds 24 RBIs and six home runs to her stats, while holding a team-best 18-game reached base streak, 16 multiple hit games and is on a seven-game hitting streak. Haley Boyett follows with a .350 batting average and then Roxy Chapa (.348) who has a team-high seven long balls and nine multiple RBI games. Chap also ties Rachael Longoria (.341) with 11 multiple hit games, while Longoria paces the team with 25 ribbies and seven doubles this year and has also logged 45 hits and 31 runs scored. Arabella Acosta-Cantu round out the top hitters with a .302 average and has driven in 12 runs this season.Â
Randa Hatter— who bats .299 with four home runs this season— has a bullpen low 3.63 ERA and is 5-5 in the circle this year with 54 strikeouts. Sarah Gilbert (5-2) is next with a 4.05 ERA , followed by the ace, Breanna Smith (7-7, 4.54 ERA) who has thrown six complete games, two shut outs, two saves and 76 Ks in 86.1 innings pitched. Carlie Clark (2-7, 4.66 ERA) rounds out the deep pitching staff and has thrown out 51 batters this season while recording one save.Â
Eastern New Mexico is 10-14 in conference and have lost its last four games overall and last five in conference play. The Greyhounds have three batters who average over .300 in Cameron Conrad (.324), Susannah Chandler (.329) and their leader, Erikka Burke who averages .348, has 41 RBIs, 35 runs scored and 12 home runs in 2017. Kaylee Rogers (14-15, 4.61 ERA) is the clubs ace with 171.2 innings pitched where she has thrown four shutouts, picked up one save and struck out 83 batter's.
The Blue and Gold dominates the all-time series record with the Hounds 51-24 and are 26-7 when playing at home. TAMUK is on an eight-game winning streak versus ENMU and have won ten of the last 11 meetings.
