BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Track and Field) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville opened the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships and competed in two final events and three preliminary events at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Thursday.
In the finals, Charles Greaves tied for fifth place in the men's long jump with a 7.42 meter (24' 4.25") mark and Kaina Martinez finished tenth in the women's long jump with a 5.70m (18' 18.5") mark, which ranks seventh in the school's record book. Greaves did punched his ticket to make another finals appearance however after running a 6.78-second time in the men's 60-meter dash, while Plaserae Johnson qualified in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.52 seconds.
LSC Champions Deana Richardson (7.57s) and Martinez (7.61s) also competed in the preliminary women's 60-meter dash and Martinez concluded her day in the 400-meter dash preliminaries (55.64s) but neither qualified for the finals in the events.
On Day two, Greaves and James Passley will compete in the men's triple jump at 11:55 a.m. Javier Lopez and Kenneth Jackson will run in the men's 60-meter hurdles and men's 200-meter dash preliminaries, respectively, while Martinez will return to the track for her final preliminary event of the championships in the women's 200-meter dash.
