Starting Strong! Beach Begins Inaugural Season 2-0

Tournament continues tomorrow at 10 a.m.

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Beach Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2-0) capped off a 7-0 evening for #JavelinaNation in its inaugural matches Friday on the Javelina beach volleyball courts as the Javelinas defeated Stevenson University (1-1), 3-2, and followed with a 5-0 blank of Principia College (0-2).
 
Lexi Wick and Kyra Henderson dominated atop the flight for the Hogs and No. 2 featured Gabby Atchley and Kelby Sprinkles follow suit at 2-0 Friday. Haley Hutchinson and Maelee Sowa also won both matches. Despite one match counting (played No. 5 vs. Principia after No. 6 exhibition against Stevenson), Madison Brabham and Paige Lanam ended the day 2-0. Taliah Phipps and Madeline Sims won the exhibition in the latter match, while Kat Evans and Kadi Shipman did the same in No. 3, 21-19, 21-6.
 
MATCH ONE v. STEVENSON
Wick and Henderson squeaked past the Mustangs in the top flight, 21-12, 12-21, 17-15, and Atchley and Sprinkles did the same in No. 2, rallying from 1-0 deficit after falling in opening set 21-18. The tandem took sets two and three, 21-18 and 15-7, respectively. The wins clinched the victory as Hutchinson and Sowa began the day with the first ever win for TAMUK on the home courts and overall, 21-18, 21-10, as the duo played the 3 p.m. match on court No. 1.
 
In the exhibition (No. 6), Brabham and Lanam edged out Stevenson, 18-21, 21-14, 15-8.
 
MATCH TWO v. PRINCIPIA
It was a clean sweep for the Hogs as the home club improved to 2-0 on the first day as an official intercollegiate program. In no order, Wick/Henderson defeated Cha Cha Fisher/Sophia Hathaway, 21-16, 21-9. Atchley/Sprinkles downed Emily Tippetts/Nikki Matters, 21-19, 21-18. Evans and Kadi Shipman earned a 21-19, 21-6 victory in No. 3, followed with 25-23, 21-13 W by Hutchinson/Sowa. Brabham/Lanam took No. 5, 21-4, 21-19.
 
The exhibition featured Phipps/Simms upend Victoria Vandiver and Mesa Goebel 21-13, 21-15.
