VICTORIA, Texas (Softball) – The win streak reached four as the Javelinas tallied three total home runs and Randa Hatter tossed a complete game in game two Tuesday afternoon at the Youth Sports Complex. Texas A&M University-Kingsville (18-16) defeated the University of Houston-Victoria (19-13) 13-3, 7-1.
GAME ONE
In the game one run-ruled victory, Roxy Chapa went 3-for-4 with six RBI and Rachael Longoria finished 3-for-4 with five RBI from the leadoff spot. Amanda Thacker (3-for-3 with two runs), Victoria Schoonard-Saborio (3-for-4 with three runs scored), Haley Boyett (2-for-3) and Arabella Acosta-Cantu (2-for-4 with a solo home run) recorded multi-hit games. Alexei Gonzalez scored two runs.
Sarah Gilbert (4-1) was dominant in relief of Breanne Smith, striking out four and allowing just a hit entering the final inning.
Kelsey Tidrick (2-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up six hits and five runs in 1.1 innings of work.
Offense came early and often in game one with the Hogs piling up 10 runs in the first, second and third. All six of Chapa's RBI came in the early stages with a three-run shot in the first, a two-run single in the second and an RBI base knock in the third. Longoria drove in a run in the second and two in the third.
For good measure, Longoria added two more on a two-run double in the fourth and Acosta-Cantu's solo shot came in the fifth.
The Cougars scored all three runs in fifth but Gilbert shut the door for the run-ruled victory.
GAME TWO
Following her series opening performance, Longoria tacked on three hits in game two, Chapa and Gonzalez were each 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Hatter hit a home run to go with her complete game in the circle and Lindsey Angelico added two hits.
Angelico's single up the middle in the second gave TAMUK a 1-0 lead and A&M-Kingsville followed with back-to-back three-run innings in the third and fourth to extend the lead to 7-0, highlighted by Hatter's three-run shot in the third.
Hatter (5-5) struck out nine in the four-hitter, allowing just one run. Michelle Revels (5-7) gave up seven runs – six earned – in 4.0 innings.
