ODESSA, Texas (Softball) – Much like the baseball team, Texas A&M University-Kingsville's (10-5, 3-3 LSC) softball team will begin the month of March with a series against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (3-15, 1-5 LSC) at the UTPB softball field March 3-4. The three-game series will open with a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m. and conclude Saturday with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will head into Odessa backed by a seven-game win streak and look to spoil the Falcons season home opener. The Javelinas have been hot as the team bats .302 led by five players hitting over .300. Pitcher Randa Hatter paces the club with a .387 batting average, .677 slugging percentage and .525 on-base percentage. First baseman Victoria Schoonard-Saborio (.383) has a team-best 18 hits and leads the Hogs with a seven-game hitting streak and six multiple hit games. Haley Boyett (.370) has found her sweet spot in the lineup as the Hogs are 5-1 this season when she bats sixth. The junior from Waco, Texas ties Hatter with eight consecutive games reaching base and is also on a six-game hitting streak. Roxy Chapa (.326) and Racheal Longoria (.311) have driven in 11 runs to set the standard this season and Longoria has reached the bags safely in nine straight games. 

Carlie Clark is 1-1 in the circle with a bullpen low 2.78 ERA. The senior has struck out 20 batters in 22.2 innings and has one save. Hatter (3-2) has put in work from the rubber this season as opponent batters average .179 and Breanna Smith (4-2) leads the group with 24 Ks and has tossed three complete games. Both Hatter and Smith has logged one shutout this season. Sarah Gilbert (2-0) has saw some time as a pitcher this year and has eight strikeouts, with a 5.11 ERA in 12.1 innings.

UT Permian Basin is licking its wounds after being swept by Cameron (3-2, 12-3, 5-0) and currently sits 1-5 in LSC play. Cindy Juarez bats .375 and has a .400 on-base percentage with one home run in just 24 at bats. She is followed by Adrianna Berzoza (.296) who leads the team with 16 hits, two home runs and seven RBI. Chelsea Faries in 0-2 in the circle but has the lowest ERA of the bullpen at 4.70, while punching out 21 batters for a team-high. Kylee Foster (2-5) has pitched four complete games this season, registering 20 strikeouts and an 8.26 ERA. Randi May (0-1) and Juarez (1-4) round out the bullpen with 9.39 and 9.35 ERA, respectively, in a combined 32.2 innings pitched.

The Javelinas control the young all-time series 8-2 and are 4-0 when playing in Kingsville. This will be the first time the clubs matchup in Odessa, Texas.
