KINGSVILLE, Texas (Beach Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (4-5) threatened in three flights and the exhibition but Houston Baptist University (3-3) was able to take the first of three matches versus the Javelinas, 5-0, Wednesday afternoon on the Javelina Beach Courts.
 
Gabby Atchley and 
Kelby Sprinkles took a 1-0 lead with a 21-17 victory in the first set but fell 22-20 in set No. 2, forcing a decisive third in flight No. 2. Tori Hinojosa and Kayla Armer were able to squeak past the duo, 15-12.
 
After winning 21-13 in the opening set in No. 3, 
Kat Evans and 
Kadi Shipman fell in the second set 21-16 before a close tiebreaker went to the Huskies 18-16.
 
The same fate for 
Haley Hutchinson and 
Maelee Sowa in No. 5 as the tandem fell in a close third.
 
In the exhibition, 
Madeline Sims and 
Marci Shipman returned the favor after falling 21-16 with a 21-16 victory. HBU took the third set 15-11.
 
In No. 4, 
Morgan Broussard and 
Madison Brabham nearly upset Danielle Wheeler and Taylor Livoti 22-20, 21-13.
