Silver City, N.M. (Men's Basketball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (16-10, 9-8 LSC) completed its second season series sweep this year after defeating Western New Mexico University (2-23, 0-17 LSC) 74-61 Thursday night on Drag's Court.
 Texas A&M-Kingsville got back in the win column and picked up its fourth conference road win this season by sweeping Western New Mexico in the season series. The Javelinas finished the game shooting just under 50 percent as a team and made nine total three-pointers. Defensively, the Hogs held the Mustangs to an opponent season-low .274 clip from the field.Â
The Hoggies had four players put up double figures in the win. Trey Sumpter returned to form with a game-high 23 points, marking the first time the junior has scored 20-plus points this season since his career-high 29 points against St. Mary's back in November of 2016. Mr. Moneyball went 5-of-6 from distance and finished with five rebounds. Will West followed by tying his career-high of 19 points for the second consecutive game, while both Duan Wright and Caelan Neal chipped in a quit 11 and 10 points, respectively. Wright—who led with four steals— and Neal tied Robert Stevenson with seven boards and Stevenson topped his career-high with seven blocks in the victory.Â

1st Half
It was a slow start for both teams, but the Hogs woke up after exploding for an 11-1 run to go ahead 14-6, forcing a WNMU timeout with 11:35 on the clock. West caught fire late in the half as the Hogs grasped a 36-19 lead with over one minute left in the first half. West went into the locker room with a team-high 15 points and the Hogs went into the break with a 37-25 lead despite a Mustang 6-0 run to end the half.
Sumpter followed West's lead with nine points while Stevenson was a problem in the paint defensively with three blocks. TAMUK shot over 50 percent from the field including five made three-point field goals. The Hogs held the Mustangs to a .241 shooting percentage in the frame and out-rebounded the home team 21-17.
2nd Half
Sumpter got things going for the Javs to open the second stanza by knocking down two early treys, beginning the game 4-of-4 from deep for 15 points. West scored on a layup moments later and TAMUK expanded its lead 45-28 at the 15:36 mark. Sumpter continued to pour it on later in the half as the junior got three the hard way for his 23rd point after a posterizing dunk and-one at with 10:12 on the clock. The Mustangs continued to fight to the finish and cut the deficit to to 7–66-59— with 1:25 left in the contest. However, the Hogs boosted the lead back to double-digits to finish the Falcons off 74-61.
