LAREDO, Texas (Softball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (3-5, 0-3 LSC) steps out of Lone Star Conference play for a doubleheader against Texas A&M International University (4-8) on Tuesday, February 21 at the Dustdevils Softball Field. The first pitch of game one is set for 12 p.m. with an estimated 2 p.m. start to the following game.

The Javelinas look to bounce back from their five game slump. The team logged three long balls last weekend against Angelo State including a grand slam from Rachael Longoria. Unfortunately, ASU swept TAMUK in the series (11-4, 4-0, 7-6) to open conference play.Â
Roxy Chapa is the lone batter over .300 (.308) with a minimum of 20 at bats. Chap has a .500 slugging percentage and one dinger this season. Delila Gillespie has a .364 batting average although she has only had 11 at bats. Longoria is next on the list with a .286 average at the dish and ties Chapa with five RBI's this season. The junior third baseman leads the team with a .400 on-base percentage and defensively with 20 assists.Â
Inside of the circle, Randa Hatter (1-2) has the bullpens lowest ERA (4.38) in 12.1 innings pitched. Fellow freshman Breanna Smith heads the pen with 12 putouts and has tossed 17.2 innings (8.15 ERA). Sarah Gilbert (1-0) has struck out six batters in 9.2 innings and senior Carlie Clark (0-1) has seven strikeouts in 11 innings. The last time Clark played in Laredo, she threw the first no-hitter for the Javelinas since the 2005 season.
International is 4-8 this season and has dropped its last two games and has an overall hitting percentage of .218 and a 5.28 earned run average. The Dustdevils are 1-3 this season against LSC opponents. Their first win of the season was in a 6-4 effort against Cameron, however, they have lost the next three LSC games against Midwestern State and two losses to Angelo State. TAMIU will have its home opener today with a doubleheader verses Tarleton State before facing the Javelinas.
Brandi Giles and Robi Kami both lead the team with a .333 batting average on nine hits each. Giles paces the club with a .486 on-base percentage and a .370 slugging percentage, while Kami is at the helm with six RBI's. Brenda Parnin averages .324 at the plate and has registered a team-high 11 hits and five RBI's.Â
Delainy Thompson (2-3) has half of the teams wins in the circle with a 3.39 ERA, nine strikeouts, and one shutout in 31 innings pitched. Thompson also leads the bullpen with four complete games. Sara Caterson (2-0) is responsible for the other two wins despite a 9.11 ERA in 17.2 innings. Giles has also seen some action as a pitcher but is 0-4 this season. She has a 5.06 ERA and has given up three home runs in 18 innings pitched.
