RICHARDSON, Texas (Football) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville Hall of Famer
Dwayne Nix was named the 2016 inductee to the Lone Star Conference Hall of Honor Wednesday. The College Football Hall of Famer will become the 13
th Javelina to be enshrined and he will receive a 15-inch custom-sculpted eagle figurine mounted on a cherry wood base in the fall.

The LSC Hall of Honor "recognizes outstanding individuals who have brought pride and honor to the conference through their contributions as an athlete or who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to the betterment of the conference as a coach or administrator."

"We are pleased to recognize the induction of Dwayne Nix into the LSC Hall of Honor," said LSC Commissioner
Jay Poerner. "As a three-time All-American, Dwayne was an outstanding player on some highly successful Javelina teams. He is most deserving of this honor."

Nix was a three-time Associated Press Little All-America first team wide receiver for the Javelina football program in 1966-68. Competing for the Hogs from 1965-68, he became the second student-athlete to earn AP Little All-America first team honors in three consecutive seasons. Nix earned All-Lone Star Conference team honors twice and was named to the LSC Team of the Decade for the 1960s. He served as a captain of the 1968 team that reached the NAIA national championship game.Â

In 1975, Nix was selected to the Javelina 50th Anniversary Team. He played on two LSC championship squads, including the 1967 team that went 9-0 and became the school's first undefeated and untied squad. Nix was on the All-Texas College first team in 1966 and 1967. At the end of his collegiate career, he held most of the Javelinas receiving records and was part of teams that compiled a 30-10 record.

Nix was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1979 and to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003. He served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps including a tour in Vietnam as a helicopter gunship pilot. After completion of his active duty and a five-year assignment in Iran with the Department of the Navy he joined the Marine Corps Reserves. During his 23 years in the reserve, Nix was activated three times including flying helicopter transport and medivac missions in Operation Desert Storm. He retired from the Marine Corps in 2003 as a Colonel. Nix worked for the Department of Navy for 29 years before retiring in 2006.

He currently resides in Virginia. He and his wife, Sandy, have two sons and five grandchildren. His son Andy is a Major in the Marine Corps and serving on the U.S. Pacific Command staff.
