AUSTIN, Texas (Softball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (17-24) dominated its way to a doubleheader sweep Tuesday at Krieg Field, defeating Huston-Tilloston University (8-32), 12-1, in game one and 6-3 in game two.

Roxy Chapa had a career day Tuesday, collecting three home runs to up her season total to nine, sixth most in the Lone Star Conference. Chapa went 3-for-3 with five RBI and three runs in game one and followed with three ribbies in game two.
Rachael Longoria also went yard in game two and finished the double dip 4-for-8 with three RBI.
Victoria Schoonard-Saborio was 2-for-3 with four runs scored in game one and
Delila Gillespie went 3-for-3 with two RBI. In game two, Gillespie continued her streaky hitting, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, while
Haley Boyett concluded the day with a 2-for-3 performance at the dish.

Karri Smith tossed a complete game in the opener to improve to 5-7 on the year.

Game OneThe Hogs offense tallied 15 hits in the 12-1 game one victory over Huston-Tilloston.

Gillespie and Chapa combined for six hits in six at bats, four runs and seven RBI in the opener and combined with Smith, who allowed just one unearned run in 5.0 innings to earn the W. The win was her fifth of the season and sixth complete game in the circle. Valerie Perez was hit with the loss, falling to 0-2 on the year.

Longoria went 3-for-4 at the dish and Schoonard-Saborio finished the first game 2-for-3 at the plate. Oatman, Boyett, Smith, and Snachez all recorded one hit in the run-ruled contest.

Longoria got things rolling for the Javelinas with a double to center field in the leadoff inning, bringing in two runs for TAMUK. The Rams cut the deficit to one in the bottom frame, scoring an unearned run.

In the second inning, the Javelinas blew the game open with four runs, beginning with Boyett's double to right field that crossed Gillespie, who reached on a single to center field. Two batters later, Chapa went yard for the first time, bringing home Boyett and Schoonard-Saborio.

The potent offense continued mashing with another four-run inning in the fourth. In the inning, Smith brought home two on a double and Gillespie drove in two on a single to make it a 10-1 ballgame in favor of the Javelinas.

TAMUK added two more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Chapa's second homer of the game, a two-run shot, to take a 12-1 lead.

Smith would shut the door in the fifth to earn the complete game victory as Texas A&M-Kingsville took the opener, 12-1.

Game TwoGillespie (2-for-3) stayed hot in game two, concluding the afternoon with five hits as the Javelinas stormed back to take the final game of the series, 6-3. With the victory, the Blue and Gold improved to 10-0 versus the Rams after sweeping the regular season series 4-0. Â

Boyett was 2-for-3 from the two-hole in the order and seven players recorded a hit (
Michaela Huebotter, Alexei Gonzalez, Myrissa Sanchez, Oatman, Chapa, Longoria and Smith). Chapa's base hit was a big one, as the freshman backstop homered for the third time Tuesday to extend Kingsville's lead.

Carlie Clark (8-8) was credited with the win after tossing 2.2 innings in relief of Huebotter. Huebotter went 4.1 innings in the no-decision. Crystal Castillo was charged with the loss, falling to 7-8 in 2016 after allowing two runs in 2.0 innings.

Huebotter fired three scoreless innings to begin game two and the offense came up big in the top of the fourth as Longoria launched a solo shot to left field for a 1-0 lead.

The Rams answered with a run in the fourth and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, before the Javelinas scored five in the sixth, rallying back to defeat HTU, 6-3.

Down 2-1, a sacrifice fly by Smith opened the door for Gonzalez to creep home to tie the game. That set the tone for Kingsville as Oatman came to the plate and set up a crafty bunt over the head of the shortstop for a single. The bunt brought home Gillespie and gave the Hogs a 3-2 lead. Chapa was next to the plate and did not disappoint, hammering her third home run of the afternoon and second three-run shot to give the Javelinas a 6-2 edge. The Rams salvaged another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a three-run game but Texas A&M-Kingsville escaped Austin with two victories over the Rams. Â
