WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Softball) – The Javelinas led for the majority of game two but Midwestern State University (28-26, 13-17 LSC) was able to secure the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4, after taking game one 13-3 Friday evening at Mustangs Park.

With the victory, the Mustangs take the final spot – the No. 6 seed – in the 2016 Lone Star Conference over Texas A&M University-Kingsville (21-32, 10-20 LSC).

Roxy Chapa led the way for TAMUK batting 4-for-6 at the plate and matching her season high of nine consecutive games with a hit. Chapa went 2-for-3 in both games and now leads the club with 16 multiple hit games in 2016.

Victoria Schoonard-Saborio (.500)
and Alexei Gonzalez (.200) went yard in the Friday's doubleheader, and
Rachael Longoria closed out day one with a .333 batting average.

Game One
Gonzalez went yard for the second time this season, but Texas A&M-Kingsville fell 13-3 in game one against Midwestern State.

Chapa went 2-for-3 at the dish with an RBI in game one. Longoria crossed home plate two times, and recorded a hit along with Schoonard-Saborio and Boyett.

Sarah Gilbert (5-6) was charged the loss after tossing 2.2 innings. Peyton Helton improved to 9-9 in the circle after 4.0 innings.

The Javelinas scored first on an RBI single off the bat for Chapa, her 53
rd RBI of the season. The Mustangs responded back quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

As the leadoff hitter, Gonzalez struck a solo shot to left field to cut into the deficit in the second inning. However, MSU answered with three runs in the bottom frame to extend its lead to 6-2.

Longoria started off the third with a double off the left field fence and was later rewarded after Oatman plated her with a ground out to second base. The Stangs scored four in the bottom of the third and three in the fourth to take game one 13-3.

Game Two
Carlie Clark (9-11) tossed her seventh complete game of the season with three strikeouts. Unfortunately, she was charged with a loss in game two after the Mustangs hit a three-run walk off to take game two in Mustangs Park 5-4. Makenzi Harris improved to 9-6 in 2016.

Schoonard-Saborio belted her seventh homer of the season and Chapa had another 2-for-3 outing at the plate in the second game of Friday's doubleheader. Boyett and Longoria also tallied one hit for the Hogs.

The Javelinas had a fast start after two hits and a walk loaded the bases in the opening inning. Clark was walked and received an RBI for Longoria crossing home plate, and Oatman reached on a fielding error that paved the way for Schoonard-Saborio to score and take a 2-0 lead. Midwestern scored one run in the bottom of the first inning due to a double by Voigt that platted Vinson who walked earlier in the frame.

Clark tossed a beautiful game after holding the Mustangs scoreless for three straight innings, while the Javelinas added another run in the fourth inning after Boyett doubled and scored
Lindsey Angelico. The Mustangs scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning but went into the seventh inning down 3-2.

In the top of the seventh, Schoonard-Saborio hit the second solo shot of the doubleheader to put the Javs up 4-2, which remained the score until the bottom of the inning. With two outs down, and runners on first and second, Voigt sent a souvenir over the centerfield wall for a walk off 5-4 victory in game two.

Saturday's double dip will be at 1 and 3 p.m.
