KINGSVILLE, Texas (Softball) – Rachael Longoria went 4-for-7 at the plate in Friday's doubleheader but Texas A&M University-Kingsville (15-22, 6-12 LSC) fell to No. 2 West Texas A&M University (38-2, 20-2) 6-3 and 10-2 at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.
Longoria leads the Javelinas with ten multiple hit games this season after going 3-for-4 in game two of Friday's doubleheader.
Victoria Schoonard-Saborio finished the evening with her fifth home run of the season in game two.
Game One Roxy Chapa (1-for-3) finished game one with 2 RBI as Texas A&M-Kingsville scored three runs late in the series opener against the Lady Buffs. Along with Chapa,
Haley Boyett, Lindsey Angelico, Corinne Brassell, and
Myrissa Sanchez all recorded one hit.
Carlie Clark (7-7) was charged the loss after tossing 4.2 innings with four strikeouts and allowing six runs.
Sarah Gilbert came out of the bullpen and struck out four in 2.1 innings.
Kilee Halbert improved to 15-1 in the circle this season while Tori Bayer picked up her seventh save of the season for the Lady Buffs.
In the top of the third inning, Lacey Taylor hit a double to center field, plating two runners to give WT an early 2-0 lead.
WT added four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead.
The Javelinas began a comeback in the sixth as Chapa's double brought home Boyett and Schoonard-Saborio.
The following inning Brassell singled in
Alexei Gonzalez to trim the Lady Buffs lead to 6-3. With the tying run at the plate, the Javelinas was unable to complete the comeback, falling to West Texas in game one, 6-3.
Game TwoLongoria recorded three singles in four at bats but the Lady Buffs took game two 10-2. Chapa, Boyett, and Oatman all went 1-for-3 in the batter's box and Schoonard-Saborio went yard in the bottom of the third.
Gilbert tossed all seven innings but fell to 3-5 in 2016, while Alexis Alfonso improved to 8-0 on the year.
West Texas took a 3-0 lead in the opening inning and added a run in the second and third.
Trailing 3-0 in the first, Longoria's singled scored Oatman to make it a two-run ballgame. In the bottom of the third Schoonard-Saborio crushed a ball into left field and the solo shot cut WT lead to 5-2.
The Lady Buffs scored five unanswered runs in the latter innings to take the second game 10-2.
Kingsville resumes the series tomorrow with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 2 p.m.
