COMMERCE, Texas (Softball) – Roxy Chapa and
Haley Boyett extended their reached base safely streaks to 19 games and 17 games, respectively, Saturday afternoon at John Cain Family Softball Field as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (6-13, 0-8 LSC) fell to Texas A&M University-Commerce (16-7, 5-3 LSC), 10-3 in game one and 9-3 in game two.
Game OneBoyett and
Rachael Longoria each went 2-for-4 and Longoria,
Lauren Oatman and
Karri Smith drove in a run in the 10-3 loss in game one. The Javelinas got off to a quick start offensively with three runs in the opening inning behind three hits.
Victoria Schoonard-Saborio led off the game with a walk and a bunt single by Boyett and fielder's choice by Chapa put runners at the corners with one out for the Hogs. A squeeze by Longoria brought in the first run of the ballgame and back-to-back singles by Oatman and Smith gave Texas A&M-Kingsville a 3-0 lead through the first half inning.
The Lions scored two in the third to make it a one-run game and plated six the following inning to take the lead. Adding two insurance runs in the fifth, A&M-Commerce defeated Kingsville, 10-3, in game one.
Katie Dean improved to 4-0 with the victory Saturday, striking out five and allowing three runs in 5.0 innings. Smith fell to 1-3 on the year after allowing eight runs – two earned – in 3.2 innings.
Sarah Gilbert came out of the bullpen to toss 1.2 scoreless innings.
Game TwoChapa went 2-for-4 with an RBI and
Michaela Huebotter was 2-for-2 with a run scored.
The Lions scored six runs in the second and Kingsville responded with two in the third. Commerce added three in the bottom half of the third to take a 9-2 lead. The Hogs scored a run in the sixth but fell to the Lions in the final game of the regular season series between the two programs.
Huebotter (1-3) was tagged with the loss after going 4.2 innings and Seleni Rima (8-3) was credited with the win after tossing 2.1 innings.
