Javelinas Strong Batting Falls Short In Rally

Victoria Schoonard-Saborio notches her fourth game with two RBIs this season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Softball) –
Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-17, 2-10 LSC) had a strong day in the batter's box against St. Mary's University (23-5, 9-0 Heartland Conference) Wednesday, March 16th, however, the Javelinas fell to the Rattlers in the doubleheader (3-7, 8-12) in Rattlers Softball Stadium.

Lauren Oatman went 3-of-7 in both games recording three singles and an RBI. Roxy Chapa and Victoria Schoonard-Saborio reached base in each game at least once, while both hit doubles and brought in a combined three RBI.

Game One
Roxy Chapa and Alexei Gonzalez each recorded a double and combined for three RBIs. TAMUK finished the first game with 6H and one error but fell after a late rally by the Rattlers.

Karri Smith moves to 3-5 in the circle for the 2016 season. Ashley Mills improves to 6-0 for the Rattlers.

TAMUK struck first, with three runs, five hits, and zero errors in the top of the fourth inning after Chapa's strike to left field to bring home Rachael Longoria, and Gonzalez's double to center field allowing Haley Boyett and Chapa to cross home plate.

The Rattlers picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth and three in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. St. Mary's never relinquished the lead again, and sealed the game with a three-run HR by Sydney Wellman in the bottom of the sixth for the Rattlers 7-3 win.

Game Two
Lyndsey Angelico and Victoria Schoonard-Saborio had doubles for the Javelinas bringing in three runs total.

Lauren Oatman, Rachael Longoria, and Haley Boyett ended game two with two hits apiece and combined for three RBIs.

Carlie Clark (4-5) picked up the loss for the Javelinas and Ashley Mills remains unbeaten with a 7-0 record this season.

After a strong opening inning by the Rattlers scoring five runs, The Hogs answered back in the top of the second inning with four runs on four hits to close the gap 4-5. Angelico started the rally with a double to left center field that brought in two runs. Oatman and Longoria then followed with consecutive singles up-the-middle, each batting in one runner.

TAMUK continued to fight throughout the game responding to another 5R half inning by the Rattlers with a 4R 5H inning in the top of the fourth, highlighted by the teams second two-RBI double of the game, this time off of the bat of Victoria Schoonard-Saborio. The Javelinas closed the gap 8-12 after four innings but neither team scored throughout the remainder of the game resulting in a sweep for St. Mary's.

The Hogs return to Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field for a three-game series against Lubbock Christian University on starting March 18th at 1 and 3 p.m.
