The Javelinas and the Aggies matched zeros as pitching was the story early on. CU broke the game open in the fourth with a seven-run inning and added two runs in the fifth to take the third game of the series, 9-0.
Game TwoThe Javelinas put up a crooked number in the second, scoring four runs to tie the game at 4-4. However, after Smith entered the circle and threw 5.0 scoreless innings, the Aggies were able to score two runs, both unearned, to take game two, 6-4, and end the series with a 2-2 split.
Smith fell to 2-4 on the year despite the sensational performance as the right-hander allowed just three hits in 6.0 innings. Wasinger (10-2) was credited with the victory after 5.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Angelico went 2-for-3 with a bases clearing triple, Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Smith was 2-for-3 at the dish and
Myrissa Sanchez added a base knock. The bottom of the Javelina order (slots 6-9) went 7-for-11 with four runs scored and three RBI in the second game.
Chapa's reached base safely streak ended at 22 games as the backstop has had a sensational debut season, reaching base in the first 22 games of the 2016 season.
Cameron led off the game with two runs in the opening frame and followed with 2 runs in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead.
The Javelinas battled back in the bottom of the second, tying the game after plating four in the frame, highlighted by Angelico's three-run triple, her first of the season.
Smith and Wasinger, who both came out of the bullpen, continued their pitchers duals until the final inning when Breezy McComas hit an RBI double that gave Cameron a 5-4 lead. The Aggies tacked on another run to take the game 6-4. Both runs that scored were unearned.
