KINGSVILLE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – DJ Weathers scored 22 points and
Troy Jones finished with 18 points and eight rebounds in Texas A&M University-Kingsville's (9-11, 1-8 LSC) 75-62 loss to West Texas A&M University (19-7, 7-3 LSC) Saturday evening at the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
The duo's 40 points nearly offset one of the nation's leading scorers in David Chavlovich's 24 points and Jordan Evans' 21 points.
Cris Boleware finished with 10 points, six assists and two steals.
West Texas A&M was able to win behind it's bench's dominating performance as the Buffs second unit scored 41 points.
Through the opening 20 minutes, the Buffs led 34-28 behind Chavlovich's 16 points. Jones scored 10 points in the first half, while Weathers did most of his damage in the second frame, scoring 16 of his 22 points in the second.
Trailing by nine early on in the second, the Javelinas scored seven unanswered points to make it a two-point ballgame with 16:37 remaining. However, WT was able to string together a run of their own to sweep the regular season series with a 75-62 victory over the Hogs.
Texas A&M-Kingsville hosts A&M-Commerce Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on IBC Bank Pack the House Night.
