KINGSVILLE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – The net might as well have been an ocean because the Javelinas could not miss from three-point range, connecting on 15-26 from behind-the-arc as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-11, 2-8 LSC) defeated #RV Texas A&M University-Commerce (16-7, 5-5 LSC), 84-71, Wednesday evening at the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court to snap the Lions' four-game Lone Star Conference winning streak.
Â
The 15 three-pointers was one away from tying the single-game mark in school history, set versus Houston Baptist in 2002.
DJ Weathers led all scorers with 19 points and he was one of three Javelina players to drain four triples with
Will West, who finished with 18 points and six rebounds and
Trey Sumpter with 14 points.
Jamar Goodwin hit three from three-point range and
Cris Boleware dished out a game-high six assists.
Â
The Javelinas took a 20-point lead with 9:11 remaining in the game and continued the offensive showcase, scoring 57 of their 84 points from long distance.
Â
"Tonight, we finally shot the way we are capable of," said head coach
Johnny Estelle. "We fed off the crowd's energy and were able to put on a show. Overall, we played well against one of the toughest teams in all of the Lone Star Conference."
Â
The Javelinas head to Tarleton State Saturday at 7 p.m.
