STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – It was a tale of two halves Saturday at Wisdom Gym as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-12, 2-9 LSC) could not shake off its slow start Saturday, falling to #RV Tarleton State University (17-7, 6-5 LSC) 76-63.
Â
The Javelinas outscored the Texans and held one of the nation's most efficient shooting teams to 25 percent shooting from three-point range.
Troy Jones led Kingsville in scoring with 14 points after going 4-8 from the field and the senior added seven rebounds.
Will West scored 12 points and
Jamar Goodwin added 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Â
The Javelinas were 9-30 in the first half and went into the locker room trailing 41-26, but came out connecting in the second half, cutting their deficit to 12 with 7:21 left to play in the game. The rally came just a hair too late as time ran out on comeback hopes for the Hogs against the Lone Star Conference preseason favorite.
Â
Three Texan players reached double figures, led by the game's leading scorer, EJ Reed, who scored 19 points.
Â
The Javelinas head home to host nationally-ranked Midwestern State University Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
