KINGSVILLE, Texas (Softball) – Lauren Oatman went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI in Texas A&M University-Kingsville's (1-2) 6-5 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State University (1-5) on day one of the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational Thursday at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.
Oatman reached base safely in all four plate appearances in Friday's victory.
Carlie Clark (1-1) earned her first win of the season after striking out four in 4.2 innings and
Sarah Gilbert came out of the 'pen to pick up her first save of the season.
Roxy Chapa,
Lindsey Angelico and
Haley Boyett earned a base knock and RBI and Boyett and
Victoria Schoonard-Saborio each swiped a bag.
Kingsville put four runs up on the scoreboard to strike first, taking a 4-0 lead in the second off three hits.
Corinne Brassell and Oatman walked and
Ariana Munoz singled to load the bases with no outs. Back-to-back walks brought in the game's first two runs and Angelico singled. With one out, Chapa singled to left field as TAMUK put up a crooked number on the scoreboard.
Adding a run in the fourth on Oatman's single, Texas A&M-Kingsville took a 5-0 lead into the later innings, and the fifth run proved to be crucial, providing a cushion that allowed TAMUK to hold onto a lead, 5-4, despite the Bulldogs plating three in the fifth and one in the sixth.
TAMUK answered back with a run in the sixth and SWOSU's run in the seventh was not enough for the Great American Conference member as the Hogs took the first game of the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational, 6-5.
Miranda McDonald went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Bulldogs. Taylor Eaves (0-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs in 1.0 inning.
