Walk Off Two-Run Double Gives @TAMUKSB 3-2 Victory

Schoonard-Saborio finished with all three RBI in the win

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Softball) –
The Javelinas led until the sixth inning and with no outs in the seventh, walked off on Victoria Schoonard-Saborio's two-run double to come from behind and defeat Black Hills State University (0-1), 3-2, on day two of the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational Friday afternoon at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.

Schoonard-Saborio finished 1-for-2 with three RBI and two walks as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2-2) improved to .500 in 2016. Karri Smith picked up the no-decision after striking out two in 5.0 innings of work. Sarah Gilbert (1-1) earned her first win of the season after 2.0 scoreless innings in relief. Alex Wiley (0-1) walked six and allowed three runs – two earned – in 6.0 innings.

Texas A&M-Kingsville struck first scoring a run on a bases loaded walk by Schoonard-Saborio. The Yellow Jackets answered with two runs in the sixth to head into the final inning with a 2-1 lead. The top of the Javelina order – Haley Boyett and Lindsey Angelico reached on an infield single and walk, respectively – before coming around to score on the double off the bat of Schoonard-Saborio.

"Early in the game, we were being patient at the plate, making sure we got a good pitch to hit," said head coach Betsy Dean. "We started chasing in the middle innings, but were able to get back to our game plan in the seventh and got timely hitting with runners on base."

Wiley went 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored from the leadoff spot, while also pitching a complete game for the Yellow Jackets.

The Javelinas resume the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational tomorrow against Black Hills State at 3:30 p.m.
