Volleyball Resets the Record Book with 23 Wins

Senior Day will take place on Saturday, November 12 against Cameron at 1 p.m.

ODESSA, Texas (Volleyball) –  Texas A&M University-Kingsville (23-8, 12-6 LSC) handled business convincingly against University of Texas of the Permian Basin (7-20, 3-14 LSC) as it defeated them in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at UTPB Gym.   

The 2016 Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team sets a new program record with 23 wins in a single season. 

"Having the new record is very exciting," said by head coach Tanya Allen. " I am really proud of this group of girls. Not only are they incredibly talented, but they are a joy to work with."

The Falcons had no answer for Hogs as they never found themselves trailing at any point in the set. TAMUK hit a season-best .356 by recording 42 kills on just ten errors, recorded seven service aces and totaled nine team blocks, holding UTPB to a .098 hitting percentage. Madison Brabham was unstoppable in the match as she finished with a team-high of 14.5 points on 13 kills and added three blocks. Krystal Faison and Lexi Wick followed with nine total kills each. Faison led the team with three aces, while Wick led the club with six total blocks. Casey Klobedans achieved double-double No. 15 after registering 34 assists and 11 digs. She also added two kills, one ace and a solo block. Ashley Bukowski had five kills, two blocks and an ace in the match, Haley Hutchinson found the floor three times and added two blocks and Krystal Puente tied for a team-high of 11 digs and had one kill.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1

Brabham picked up where she left off last night by registering three early kills to help the Hogs gain a 12-3 lead over the Falcons. That lead grew to 19-6 and ultimately the Javelinas won the first set 25-12. TAMUK hit .345 as a team and recorded four total blocks. Brabham had five kills and two blocks in the set, followed by Faison and Wick who each had three kills.

Set 2

Texas A&M-Kingsville led wire-to-wire in set No. 2 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Javs were ignited after consecutive service aces by Faison to stretch their lead 17-10. The Hoggies tallied six aces in the third set alone on the way to a 25-17 win. Brabham had five kills again in the second frame and Faison had four kills and three aces. Bukowski, Wick and Puente accounted for the other three aces.

Set 3

The Javs continued to force their will over the Falcons in the third stanza as they outhit them .343-.079. The Falcons could not get anything going offensively as they relinquished eight points due to attacking errors with five of them coming late in the set. Wick hit .571 on four kills and Bukowski, Brabham and Hutchinson all had three kills apiece.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Blue and Gold will end the regular season at home next weekend. Friday, November 11, Kingsville will play against Midwestern State at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday will be senior day for the Javelinas as they close out the season against Cameron at 1 p.m.
