Volleyball Looking to Finish Strong on the Road

Texas A&M-Kingsville will end the season at home next weekend against Midwestern State and Cameron

CANYON, Texas (Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (21-8, 10-6 LSC) closes out its road portion of its 2016 schedule this weekend at West Texas A&M University (14-12, 9-7 LSC) Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. match Saturday at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (7-19, 3-13 LSC).

The Javelinas hold the fourth spot in the conference behind No. 10 Angelo State, Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico in that order. Leading the league in total kills, total assists, service aces and total block, A&M-Kingsville looks to continue its strong play as the visiting team, having won four of the last five road contests.

Krystal Faison has been dominant this season and leads the club with 344 kills and 43 aces. Lexi Wick is three kills short of 300 and her .409 hitting percentage leads the LSC and is good for fourth in the nation. Although the junior middle leads with 32 solo blocks, she ties Haley Hutchinson with 114 total kills who also adds 167 kills. Senior Ashley Bukowski has 252 total kills with 27 service aces and Madison Brabham has accumulated 184 kills and 83 total blocks in 2016. The offense has been ran through Casey Klobedans, who has a league-high of 1,124 assists. She also adds 73 kills, 44 blocks and 25 service aces.

West Texas A&M is currently on a three-game losing streak and is coming off of a tough five-set loss at Western New Mexico at Drag's Court. The Lady Buffs return home where they post a 9-7 record and have won the last six matches in The Box. WT hit .207 as a team and has a total of 219.5 blocks.

Cori Haley and Elisa Bentsen have 269 kills and 244 kills, respectively. Haley adds 47 blocks and 13 aces while Bentsen leads the team with 115 total blocks. Crystal Thomas and Michaela Montgomery both have registered 159 kills this season followed by Taylor Kress at 138 kills and Libby Strickland with 101 kills. Selena Batiste has 91 kills and paces the offense with 791 assists. She also is one ace behind Lauren Britten who leads with 19.

TAMUK defeated WTAMU earlier this season in five sets and are now 4-48 all-time against the Lady Buffs.

UT Permian Basin have also lost its last three matches but post an impressive 4-1 record in five-set matches. The Falcons have struggled in their own gym in 2016 and have a 1-6 record at home with their lone win coming against Cameron towards the end of October.

Caitlyn Guajardo (256 kills) and Travanna Matthews (128 kills) are the only players with triple-digit kills followed by Rachel Dixon with 92 kills. Margje Daystar leads the team with 57 blocks to add to her 89 kills and Mallory Nicholson leads with 572 assists and 23 service aces.

The Hoggies topped the Falcons 3-1 in early October and holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series.
