SAN ANGELO, Texas (Men's Basketball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-8, 1-5 LSC) is poised to upset No. 9/14 Angelo State University (15-3, 3-3 LSC) in the final game of the first round of Lone Star Conference regular season play on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.

A team the Javelinas met three times last season, the Rams are ranked No. 9 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Poll and No. 14 in the Division II Media Poll sponsored by D2SIDA. Down by as much as 18 in last season's Lone Star Conference tournament opener, the Javelinas stormed back to cut it to a one-possession game.

Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville are coming off a six-day break. The Rams are 7-1 in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center and lead the LSC in points scored with 90.2 points, assists per game (15.78) and free throw percentage (.741). The defense is also in the top 10 nationally and tops the LSC chart in forced turnovers per game (18.50).

Kingsville leads the all-time series, 51-50, despite the Rams taking all three games last season.

Troy Jones,
DJ Weathers and
Jamar Goodwin average double figures for the Hogs with 11.6, 11.2 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. Jones leads the club in rebounding with 7.0 boards per contest, followed by Goodwin's 6.0.
Cris Boleware and Weathers dish out 2.4 assists per game and Boleware adds 1.4 steals and over 8.0 points per contest.

Stedman Allen leads the team in scoring with 16.6 points per game on 52.4 percent shooting. Tre Bennett follows with 16.4 points per contest and a 87.4 percent clip at the foul line.
