CANYON, Texas (Men's Basketball) – Jamar Goodwin led Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-6, 1-3 LSC) with 16 points and added seven rebounds and two blocked shots but the Javelinas fell to West Texas A&M University (13-7, 2-3 LSC), 76-60, on Saturday afternoon at the First United Bank Center.
Goodwin's 16 points were the most for the senior since Feb. 12, 2015 at A&M-Commerce.
Will West scored 11 points and pulled down four rebounds and
Troy Jones finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Nine of Goodwin's points came in the first half with the Javelinas trailing 34-24 heading into the locker room. TAMUK outscored WT in the paint, 16-8 in the opening 20 minutes.
Cris Boleware and
Troy Jones scored all nine of their points in the second half but David Chavlovich scored 17 of the Buffs' points in the second stanza. The Javelinas shot 51.9 percent in the second half.
West Texas' lead was cut to seven after back-to-back buckets by Jones and
DJ Weathers at the 15:46 mark in the second. The Buffaloes followed with nine unanswered points to make it a 16-point ballgame and Texas A&M-Kingsville could not mount another comeback in the loss to the Buffs.
Chavlovich scored a game-high 27 points and Jerrod Walton added 10 off the bench.
