KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team dominated Oklahoma Panhandle State in a 3-0 victory (25-7, 25-11, 25-19) Wednesday night in the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The Javelinas held the Aggies to negative attack percentage until the third set.
With the win, the Blue and Gold improved to 7-5 on the year while OPSU lost their eighth straight to fall to 1-10.
Krystal Faison led the Javelinas with 10 kills and set a career-high with six service aces. Adding eight kills was
Ashley Bukowski. Sophomore setter
Casey Klobedans was credited with a match-high 27 assists.
Seeing extended action off the bench was
Yaneisy Lua,
Alexandria Wells and
Malayzia Winbush. Lua and Wells finished with three kills apiece while Winbush added two.
Defensively,
Brett Zaccardo recorded 12 digs. Both
Haley Hutchinson and Bukowski had two blocks on the night.
TAMUK came out red hot in the opening set, never trailing the entire time. The Javelinas recorded 14 kills and a .600 attack percentage while holding the visitors to five kills and a -.038 hitting percentage.
Scoring the first point of set two was the Aggies. However, the Blue and Gold won the next two points and never looked back. During the game, Faison posted four consecutive service aces as the Hogs won the set 25-11.
The final set was closer and saw OPSU take a 4-3 lead. TAMUK responded by taking the next two points on kills by Bukowski and Wells. After the Aggies tied the score, the Hogs went on a 7-1 run to seal their victory.
Next up for the Blue and Gold are two Lone Star Conference road matches at Texas Woman's on Friday and Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday afternoon.
