Robinson Sets Division II High Jump Record on Final Day of LSC Outdoor Championships

The LSC meet and overall conference records were also broken by Robinson.


 
SAN ANGELO, Texas (Track & Field) – Texas A&M-Kingsville's Jeron Robinson won his third straight Lone Star Conference high jump title with a record setting performance at LeGrand Stadium on Saturday. He cleared 7-7 (2.31m) to break his own Division II record by half an inch, matched the top collegiate mark this season and reached the "A" standard for the United States Olympic Team Trials.
 
The Javelinas came in fourth on the men's side with 135 points and the women were fifth with 87 points. Taking the men's title for the 18th time and first since 1967 was Texas A&M-Commerce, totaling 196 points. Angelo State won their seventh straight women's title with 197 points.
 
Amber Perry captured her fourth straight 400m dash league title with a career best time of 53.97, taking a hundredth of a second off her provisional mark. She also tied for third with Mikala Booher of Tarleton State in the high jump with a clearance of 5-3.75 (1.62m).
 
Winning both the 100m and 200m dashes was Kaina Martinez. She posted a time of 11.76 in the quickest women's race of the day and followed with a 24.18 in the 200m.
 
Javan Gray fouled on his first two attempts of the day and made the finals on his third attempt. After recording two straight fouls again, he uncorked a career long toss of 216-10 (65.92m) to win the competition. His throw ranks second in Blue and Gold history and seventh in the nation this season.
 
Lutalo Boyce completed the indoor and outdoor sweep of the men's long jump titles. He won handily with a distance of 25-3.25 (7.70m) that tied for fourth in school history. Fellow Javelina Malcolm Cameron also reached the medal stand with a leap of 24-2.5 (7.38m) for the bronze.
 
The team of Darnelle Mickens, Deon Hope, Javier Lopez and Boyce ran a 40.66 to take the 4x100m relay title.
 
In the individual 100m dash, Hope won his second gold of the meet with a career best time of 10.46. Boyce (10.54) claimed fourth and Mickens (10.71) was sixth as well. Hope ended his day with a bronze in the 200m in a personal best 21.47.
 
The 110m hurdles saw Lopez place second in 13.96. Teammates Courtney Macon (14.42) and Jamey Malvern (14.38) were fifth and seventh, respectively.
 
A new school record was set by Jasmine Miller, Kathy Trevino, Martinez and Miller in the 4x400m relay. They won the gold in a time of 3:41.94 and were a little over two tenths of a second away from breaking the conference meet record. The same foursome ended up third in the 4x100m relay in 46.94.
 
Richard Cervantes, Derek Tesch and Gray all picked points for TAMUK in the men's discus. Cervantes reached the medal stand in third with a toss of 160-1 (48.79m). Tesch followed in sixth at 158-9 (48.39m) and Gray was seventh with a distance of 157-10 (48.12m).
 
Roman Hernandez finished in a time of 53.88 to cross the line fourth in the 400m hurdles.
 
Aricela Alvarez gained 3.5 points for TAMUK in the women's long jump after tying for fifth. She leapt 17-9 (5.41m) on her second attempt that was matched by West Texas A&M's Marion Gatignol on everybody's third leaps.
 
Fifth place was captured by Francisco Solis in the men's 1500m run. He crossed the line in 4:02.11. In the 800m, Solis (1:58.95) picked up a point with an eighth place finish.
 
Next up for the Blue and Gold are the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships taking place May 21-23. The meet will be held on the campus of Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan.
