Aggies Stifle @TAMUKSB Hitters Friday Afternoon

LAWTON, Okla. – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team (7-10, 1-5 LSC) was held to three hits in both games Friday afternoon at McMahon Field as Cameron (17-2, 2-0 LSC) won 3-0 in game one and 13-1 in five innings in the second contest.

Valerie Ramirez recorded two of the Javelinas' base knocks on the afternoon including the lone extra base hit.

Taking the losses were Karri Smith (3-5) and Carlie Clark (2-2) in games one and two, respectively. The Aggies to pick up the wins were Kelsey Watson (7-1) and Sonora Zukerman(6-1).

Game 1
Two runs in the third was all CU needed to earn the victory. They tacked on one more in the fourth on a leadoff home run by Paige Daino.

Only three hits were managed by the TAMUK. Ramirez had a single in the top of the first while the other two came in the sixth and seventh courtesy of Isabel Flores and Rachael Longoria.

Smith went the distance for the eighth time this season in the circle. She struck out two but allowed three runs on seven hits.

Game 2
After being shutout for eight consecutive innings, the Javelinas scored once in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly hit by Clark. The inning started when Ramirez ripped a double to left center on a 3-1 pitch.

However, the Aggies scored five runs in the first and second innings to take command of the contest. They tacked on three more in the third for the final runs.

The Blue and Gold nearly had a rally in the top of the fifth when Haley Boyett and Stephanie Lugo recorded back-to-back singles. Jaeleen Castro was then plunked to load the bases with two outs but CU was able to get the final out without allowing a runner to cross the plate.

Clark started on the rubber but last just an inning, surrendering eight runs on seven hits. Bella Rosas threw the final three frames and gave up five hits and runs with a strikeout.

The two teams are back in action Saturday afternoon with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 12 p.m.
