@TAMUKSB Drops Road Series to Cameron

Series with the Aggies is now tied 14-14

LAWTON, Okla. – Quick starts by Cameron (19-2, 4-0 LSC) was too much for the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team (7-12, 1-7 LSC) to overcome Saturday afternoon at McMahon Field. The Aggies took game one 7-0 and followed with a 4-1 victory in the second contest.

Both Haley Boyett and Loren Donaldson went 2-for-6 at the plate to pace the Javelinas.

In the circle, Carlie Clark (2-3) and Karri Smith (3-6) suffered the defeats. Picking up the wins for CU were Katelyn Craker (5-0) and Kelsey Watson (8-1).

Game 1
CU scored two runs in the first and never looked back. They added three in the third and scored twice more in the sixth.

Three times the Blue and Gold were able to get a runner in scoring position but were held scoreless each time. Their best opportunity to track runs on came in the fourth when Boyett started the frame off with a bunt single. Donaldson then reached on an error. However, Watson was able to get a groundout, popup and strikeout on the following three hitters.

Boyett recorded two of TAMUK's five hits in the contest. Also getting base knocks were Ariel Kellogg, Stephanie Lugo and Donaldson.

Smith went all six innings for her ninth complete game of the season. She allowed seven runs on 11 hits and three walks.

Game 2
A three-run home run by Lauren Renneker started CU off in the first go around at bat.

They increased their lead to four when Breezy McComas sent a 3-1 pitch over the center field fence in the fourth.

In the next half inning, Valerie Ramirez led off with a single and was followed by another single from Donaldson to put runners on the corners. Corinne Brassell drew a walk two batters later to load the bases with one out. A single to right brought home a run for the Javelinas courtesy of Isabel Flores for their only run of the contest.

Jaeleen Castro, Donaldson, Flores and Ramirez all recorded a hit in the game.

Going the distance with three strikeouts was Clark. She also surrendered four runs on four hits.

Next up for TAMUK are back-to-back road doubleheaders this Tuesday and Wednesday. They will face St. Mary's first and then travel up to Austin, Texas to take on Huston-Tillotson.
