GAME 25: @JavelinaMBB Invade Wichita Falls Looking to Dethrone the Mustangs

Action tips off at 6 p.m. at D.L. Ligon Coliseum

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Men's Basketball) –
Poised to close out the regular season as the hottest team in the Lone Star Conference, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (8-16, 3-9 LSC) have a tough task at hand as the Javelinas head to #RV Midwestern State University (19-7, 8-4 LSC) on Feb. 21 for a 6 p.m. battle at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The game is TAMUK's second to last contest of the season. Following Saturday's slate, the Javelinas head to nationally-ranked No. 10/9 Angelo State University (23-2, 10-1 LSC) to close out the season on Feb. 28.

The Mustangs are as automatic as a team can be at home, boasting a 552-130 all-time record in 46 seasons at D.L. Ligon Coliseum and a 46-6 mark under head coach Nelson Haggerty. However, the Javelinas are coming off a sensational 72-67 victory over Cameron University (11-13, 3-9 LSC) that featured Jordan Jahr post 18 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks and Duan Wright score 21 of his 23 points in the second half. Wright filled up the stat sheet, finishing with seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal to go with his career-high 23 points.

Receiving votes in the Division II Sports Information Directors/Media Poll, Midwestern State is currently third in the LSC, while the Javelinas sit tied for sixth place with Cameron.

Live stats and video will be available and can be accessed by visiting JavelinaAthletics.com, the official home of Texas A&M-Kingsville athletics.

Scouting the Mustangs
- The Mustangs sit at third place in the packed LSC, a half-game ahead of A&M-Commerce. With a season sweep of the Lions, MSU holds the tiebreaker.
- MSU is ranked third in the nation in three-point field goal defense (29 percent), fifth in field goal percentage defense (38.8 percent), fifth in total rebounds (1000.0), sixth in rebound margin (+9.8), sixth in offensive rebounds per game (15.33), seventh in total blocks (123.0) and 11th in blocked shots per game (5.1)
- Guard Bretson McNeal paces the 'Stangs in scoring as the senior is averaging 16.1 points per game. McNeal has reached double figures in all but two contests this season.

Balanced Attack
Much like his junior college teams, head coach Johnny Estelle's rotation is a lot deeper than most teams in Division II. Leading the way in scoring is Troy Jones at 12.4 points per game and his field-goal percentage sits in the top 20 in the country, but Jordan Jahr and Jamar Goodwin are also averaging double figures.

All-Time Series
Midwestern State holds a 31-11 edge in the all-time series that dates back to the 1976-77 season. In fact, the Mustangs have earned a 'w' in each of the last 15 meetings between the two programs with the Javelinas' last win coming on Feb. 16, 2008, 78-63. TAMUK's last win in Wichita Falls came on Jan. 19, 2008 (82-72).

Last Time They Met
- Duan Wright made a strong case for ESPN Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays with a highlight-reel dunk en route to finishing with a then career-high 19 points (11-of-12 from the free throw line) and eight rebounds but McNeal's 10 points in the final 1:48 allowed Midwestern State (then ranked No. 23 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the D2SIDA Poll) to come from behind and escape Kingsville with a 75-71 win (Jan. 24).
- As a team, the Javelinas went 24-of-27 from the free throw line. The bench was outstanding all game, outscoring the MSU second unit, 57 to 27. DJ Weathers poured in 18 points, 12 coming in the second half, and dished out a career best five assists.
- The Javelinas led by as much as six with 2:18 left to play.
