Match 29: @JavelinaVB Hosts Dustdevils for Final Non-Conference Tilt

Javelinas are 7-6 at home this season


 
KINGSVILLE, Texas – Tuesday sees the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team play its final non-conference match of the season against Texas A&M International. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
 
The Javelinas are 18-10 on the season while the Dustdevils come to Kingsville with a 7-11 record.

Scouting Texas A&M-Kingsville
Pacing the Blue and Gold with 321 kills for an average of 3.06 per set is Krystal Faison. She also has a team-high 30 service aces. Valarie Moehrig goes into the contest with 311 kills and Ashley Bukowski has recorded 309 kills.
 
Casey Klobedans has been credited with 1,062 assists this year while also leading the team with a .290 attack percentage.
 
Defensively, Haley Hutchinson surpassed the 100-block mark on Saturday and sports 105 on the season. Her 84 block assists are tied for the eighth most in a season by a Javelina with current student assistant and former TAMUK standout Stephanie Johns' 2013 performance. Adding 76 rejections is Madison Brabham.
 
Brett Zaccardo enters with 527 digs and averages 5.02 d/s. She is second in the Lone Star Conference in both categories.
 
Scouting Texas A&M International
Ramey Gardner leads TAMIU with 226 kills, 3.14 k/s and 30 service aces. However, she is hitting just .134 on the season. Paula Mrowczynska has totaled 200 kills and sports a team best .223 attack percentage. Also with triple-digit kills on the season is Madison Morris with 197.
 
Setting the attackers up is Lizzie Prieto. She has 640 assists for an average of 8.89 per set over 72 stanzas.
 
Cassandra Hernandez paces the Dustdevils with 304 digs and 4.22 d/s. Second is Prieto with 232 digs (3.22 d/s). Samantha Gonzalez has a team-high 42 blocks. Close behind her is Megan Unrath with 40 rejections.
 
All-Time vs. Dustdevils
After winning the first meeting this season in Laredo, Texas, the Javelinas are 14-8 all-time against the Dustdevils. TAMUK has won five in-a-row and 13 of the last 15 contests. When playing TAMIU at home, the Blue and Gold are 5-4.
 
Multiple 1,000-Assist Campaigns
Klobedans reached the 1,000-assist mark this season at Texas A&M International on Oct. 28. She became only the second TAMUK player ever to post two seasons of 1,000-plus assists. The first to accomplish the feat was Bianca Valenciano in 1998.
 
Multiple 500-Dig Seasons
For the first time in program history, a Javelina recorded multiple 500-dig seasons in her career. Zaccardo accomplished the feat with her first dig against Texas Woman's on Oct. 30.
 
LSC Tournament Bound
With wins at Cameron and Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Kingsville clinched a spot in the LSC Tournament for the fifth consecutive year. The Javelinas are currently in fourth place in the standings with a full game lead on Cameron and Texas A&M-Commerce. Ahead of the Javelinas are Angelo State (+3), Tarleton State (+4) and Texas Woman's (+2).
 
Assists Chase
Klobedans goes into Tuesday's non-conference match with 2,233 careers assists. She is fifth in school history, surpassing Kirby Krueger (2006-09) with her fourth assist against Texas A&M-Commerce on Halloween afternoon. Klobedans is 173 shy of catching Bianca Valenciano (1997-98) for fourth. The program leader is Natalie Walther (2001-04) with 3,051.
 
Season Assists
Klobedans has tallied 1,062 assists this season, placing her ninth on the Javelinas' single-season list. Christina George is in seventh with 1,111 from the 1996 season and just ahead of her is Natalie Walther's 2004 campaign total of 1,112. The program's single-season record holder is Courtney Gamble with 1,535, accomplished in 1999.
 
Career Digs
Zaccardo entered into the Javelinas' top 10 career list in digs earlier this eason and currently has 1,082 in only her second collegiate season. The sophomore sits in ninth place after surpassing Nikki Dixon (1999-02) at Midwestern State on Oct. 23.
 
Current student assistant coach and former TAMUK standout Kelsey Washington is eighth in program history with 1,150 digs. Kim Martinez (1996-99) holds the TAMUK career record with 2,009.
 
School 4-Set Attack Record
Faison set a new school record at TAMIU for attacks in a four-set match. She had 53 in the contest, breaking the previous mark of 51 that was held by Shaday Smith since Oct. 16, 2004 at West Texas A&M.
 
Double-Doubles
Javelina players have totaled 39 double-doubles this season. Faison leads the team with 15, followed by 13 courtesy of Klobedans and nine from Bukowski. Adding two double-doubles is Moehrig, which came in back-to-back matches at home against Angelo State and Tarleton State.
