KINGSVILLE, Texas –Ashley Bukowski,
Krystal Faison and
Casey Klobedans all recorded a double-double Wednesday night in the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team's 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 29-27, 25-19) over Texas A&M International in the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building. Bukowski finished with 14 kills and 18 digs, Faison added 16 kills and 17 digs and Klobedans tallied 53 assists and a season-high 20 digs.
The Javelinas improved to 17-9 on the season with their fourth straight victory while the Dustdevils fell to 7-11.
Along with her double-double, Faison set a new school record with 53 attacks in a four-set match. The previous mark was 51 by Shaday Smith at West Texas A&M on Oct. 16, 2004.
Madison Brabham set new career-highs in kills (13) and hitting percentage (.550) in the contest. Libero
Brett Zaccardo was credited with a match-high 25 digs, her third consecutive contest with 20-plus digs.
Pacing the Blue and Gold with four blocks was
Haley Hutchinson. Kloebdans posted three rejections while
Valarie Moehrig and Brabham recorded two blocks apiece.
TAMUK took a 12-9 lead in the first set on a kill by Bukowski. An immediate 10-4 run by TAMIU put them in front by four. Late in the set, the Dustdevils hit into four straight attack errors to allow the Javelinas to take a 23-22 advantage. However, TAMIU won the next three points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second stanza, the Dustdevils led 12-10 until the Blue and Gold tallied eight points in a row. During the scoring stretch Faison recorded half the points on kills and
Abbey Wells nailed back-to-back aces. TAMUK recorded 18 kills and a .273 attack percentage compared to TAMIU's eight kills and .138 attack percentage.
The Javelinas led from the start in the third, however, the Dustdevils stayed within striking distance. Eventually, the home team took a 26-25 lead after back-to-back kills by Paula Mrowczynska. Four of the final points went in favor of the Blue and Gold thanks to two kills from Bukowski and one from Faison.
After TAMIU took an early 4-3 advantage in set four, TAMUK went on an 8-2 burst to take the lead for good. The Javelinas finished the stanza with 15 kills with seven coming off the right hand of Brabham.
TAMUK returns home this weekend to take on Texas Woman's at 7 p.m. on Friday.
