Faison Records Double-Double, @JavelinaVB Hangs on to Down Aggies in Five

Javelinas improved to 7-2 in road matches

LAWTON, Okla. – Sophomore Krystal Faison recorded her 14 double-double of the season as Texas A&M-Kingsville hung on to defeat Cameron 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 15-25, 20-25, 15-10) Saturday afternoon in Aggie Gym. Faison concluded with 16 kills and 25 digs, tying her career-high.

The Javelinas improved to 16-9 and 6-4 in the Lone Star Conference while the Aggies drop to 13-6 and 4-6 in league action.

Valarie Moehrig registered 14 kills while Ashley Bukowski added 11. Finishing with her fourth straight double-double and 12th of the season was Casey Klobedans. She totaled 43 assists and 13 digs.

Defensively, Haley Hutchinson had six blocks and both Madison Brabham and Klobedans rejected four apiece. Brett Zaccardo was credited with 25 digs. Matching her season best with 13 digs was Abbey Wells.

CU began the contest by taking a 13-9 lead on a block. The Blue and Gold responded with a 12-4 run to go back in front. Capping off the run was Brabham and Moehrig with a combined block. The Aggies managed to tie the score late but TAMUK took the final three points to go up one set to none.

Set two was close the whole way with 11 tied scores and six lead changes. The Javelinas had the final lead change on a 5-0 burst that saw Bukowski record a kill and service ace.

The third stanza was all in the Aggies' favor as they hit .300 with 12 kills to the Hogs' eight kills and .000 attack percentage.

Moehrig tallied a kill to give TAMUK an 11-10 advantage in the fourth. Four straight points went to CU to give them the lead for good. The closest the Blue and Gold was one twice, the last being at 17-16 after a block courtesy of Hutchinson and Klobedans.

The Aggies maintained the lead for the first half of the decisive set. After the squads switched sides, the Javelinas finished the match on a 9-2 run. Faison totaled four kills during the scoring stretch.

Next for the Blue and Gold is a road match at Texas A&M International on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
