Game 16: @JavelinaMBB Looks to Improve to .500 in LSC Play

Texas A&M-Kingsville is coming off a 75-67 win over Eastern New Mexico



KINGSVILLE, Texas (Men's Basketball) –
Fresh off its first Lone Star Conference victory of the season, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (6-9, 1-2 LSC) returns to the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court to host West Texas A&M University (10-6, 1-2 LSC) on Jan. 17 at 4 p.m.
 
Tabbed to finish sixth in the preseason poll, the Javelinas earned a 75-67 win over Eastern New Mexico (7-9, 0-3 LSC) on Wednesday. Don Thomas poured in a team-high 19 points, going 8-of-10 from the free throw line and Will West contributed a career best 14 points and eight rebounds – four offensive – off the bench.
 
The Buffs, picked to finish last in the LSC by head coaches, media representatives and sports information directors, defeated Cameron University (9-6, 1-2 LSC), 83-82, on Jan. 10, but were derailed by No. 14/10 Angelo State University (14-1, 2-0 LSC) on Wednesday.
 
Troy Jones has reached double figures in 11 consecutive contests and leads the Javelinas in scoring (14.7), rebounds (7.2) and field goal percentage (67.2). His field goal percentage tops the conference and ranks sixth in all of NCAA Division II. Thomas is shooting lights out from three-point range, draining 43 percent from long distance.
 
Senior Dez Dumars paces the Buffs with 16.5 points per contest and freshman Carl White has connected on 48 percent of his shots from behind-the-arc. Six-foot, three-inch swingman Antjuan Ball leads the team in rebounds per game (7.8) and is scoring 11.9 points/game. In Wednesday's loss to the Rams, Ball and Dumars combined for 24 points and seven rebounds.
